Rain Barrels are an excellent way to capture the water where it falls, save money on summer water bills, and protect our groundwater and surface water resources, all while maintaining a lush, green lawn!
Water collected in a rain barrel has numerous uses:
Cleaning your siding and windows
Rinsing down your driveway and patio
Washing the car
Watering trees, lawns and flowerbeds
Roof runoff is not suitable for people or pets to drink, but it is better for plants because it does not have the added nutrients that our drinking water has.
Rain Barrel Workshops
We recently held our third Rain Barrel Workshop on April 19, 2016. Here, 31 new barrels were added to residential homes and others learned the ins and outs of barrel installation, use and maintenance. Other local groups were also present to share their work on lawn care, native plantings and energy efficiency. This event is made possible through a Stewardship Fund Mini Grant provided by the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization.
