Roles and responsibilities
The primary function of the communications department is to provide consistent, pertinent and important information to residents and stakeholders through a variety of communication platforms. Engagement topics include City Council meetings, ordinance updates, public hearings, events and programs. Information is shared via the city website, the Village Notes quarterly newsletter, social media, and electronic signage.
The communications department aims to promote all the good things happening in St. Anthony Village with the goal of elevating local interest and community pride, while highlighting the city for potential new business owners and residents.
Website and push-notifications
The city's website has the most up-to-date information, such as upcoming events, current and future projects, department and City Council initiatives, and who to contact with questions.
Signing up for push-notifications allows community members and business owners to stay informed and receive alerts regarding snow plowing information, project status, event info, crime, and more. Learn more about how to sign up.
The use of surveys provides community feedback to city officials and staff as they make decisions that impact St. Anthony. In 2022, the city partnered with Polco, an innovative online community engagement platform, to conduct the National Community Survey (NCS). In addition to conducting the NCS, the city has the ability to conduct periodic informal polls and surveys. In the summer of 2022, the city conducted a communications survey, asking residents for feedback on city communications. In 2023, the city conducted a climate plan survey to gauge the community's priorities related to climate planning.
Published quarterly, the VillageNotes is the official newsletter for residents and businesses. The newsletter provides in-depth information about community news, city projects and initiatives, city services, employees and community events. In addition, the newsletter provides a vehicle for community-affiliated organizations to share news and events. Each edition is mailed to every residence and business in our city. There is an option to sign up to receive Village Notes electronically via email. In addition, current and past issues are available online.
Facebook is our primary social media platform for the timely sharing of city events and accomplishments, and educating residents. The city also uses LinkedIn for professional updates, job postings and thought leadership, and Instagram to provide dynamic content and trending topics. “X” (formerly Twitter) is used primarily for emergency and crisis communication.
The city's YouTube channel shares a variety of digital content created by NineNorth and the city's communications team. NineNorth produces the city's quarterly update videos and provides coverage of local stories and events.
